The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
