Jurgen Klopp states rejoining to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who departed from Anfield in 2024, has suggested that rejoining the club is something that could happen. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-season tenure which brought a European Cup triumph and the Premier League crown for three decades, has since taken on positions in a global football capacity within the Red Bull organization and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
Liverpool won England's top flight in the previous campaign, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would welcome the idea that he might come back one day. During an extensive chat, he shared with his interviewer: “I stated I will never coach any other side in England. Which implies should it be the Reds...yeah. It's plausible.”
“I’m 58, that means I could make the decision down the line, I don’t know. Do I have to make the decision today? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about which situations must arise to bring him back to the dugout, he confessed he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, My present work fulfills me,” he said. “No longing for management; I avoid standing under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip media briefings four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, but sitting in a restaurant alongside the squad enjoying conversation, I appreciate that. With many victories so there was often great spirits in the building. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise for his successor, acknowledging his role for the tweaks which secured the championship in the previous season. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches in every contest after a summer spending spree, but he rubbished the suggestion that it might signal a slump.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker like Florian Wirtz, doubters will be silenced with negative comments. A remarkable prospect. Ekitike, incredible player. They have a strong balanced team. No need for concern over the club, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
The manager expressed deep feeling about the death of Jota, a player he signed in 2020, along with the consequences for the team. The Portugal international lost his life in a vehicle collision alongside his brother this past summer.
“How do you replace a person like him? This isn't just regarding his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. It's hard to picture the dressing room absent his presence. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. A devastating blow for his teammates also. No one within the club will ever use it as an excuse but it is the situation. Entering the changing area where his spirit remains. Coping with it on a personal level is challenging. Overwhelming.”
