Hulu to Bring a Far Cry TV Show from the Producers of the Alien Series and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
The most recent Far Cry game that gamers dived into was Far Cry 6, which showcased Giancarlo Esposito as the villain, Antón, and came out on October 6, 2021. As a series, it is famous for embracing violence and madness with similar glee, all while presenting captivating, ideologically themed narratives. Little surprise that the network’s decision for a Far Cry seasonal program attracted two visionaries whose work have exemplified all of those elements.
What to Expect
Adapted from Ubisoft's hit video game series, the short-run anthology series is set to premiere on Hulu and be produced by FX Productions. The series will also follow the video games' format by introducing a new location and group of personalities in every instalment.
Creative Minds
Rob Mac, producer of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the talent behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will serve as executive producers on the series through their companies, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be joined by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.
The network enjoyed outstanding partnerships with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a combined six series and 32 seasons of television, and we are overjoyed that they are teaming up for Far Cry,” stated Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a statement. “I have no doubt that they will present this story in a way that is innovative, compelling, and incredibly entertaining. We also want to thank our partners at Ubisoft for entrusting us with this popular property.”
Upcoming Developments
Mac will also appear in the show, but at the time of writing, we are unsure of what role that could be. Hawley's Alien: Earth was just renewed for another season, with FX and Disney finalizing a new comprehensive agreement with the showrunner.
“Having the opportunity with Noah Hawley is a fantasy come true,” stated Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been remarkably supportive, entrusting us with one of the most iconic video-game universes ever created. And throughout this process, my FX team constantly supports me with their ongoing trust and backing.”
“What I love about the Far Cry game franchise is that it’s an anthology-style series. Every instalment is a take of a theme, the same way each season of Fargo is a version on a story,” explained Hawley. “To create a big action show that can evolve from one instalment to the next, while always exploring the core of humanity through this complex and chaotic perspective, is a ultimate goal. I’m excited to collaborate with Rob and introduce our shared bold, daring sensibility to the television.”
A time frame for when we can look forward to the new Far Cry show has remains undisclosed. The series will be available on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus internationally.
