Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Player the Athlete
The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and had been in communication with the NFL.
The organization omitted the name of the player by name in their statement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete directly, posted a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones stated the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Player's Recent Legal Issues
Rice missed the initial part of this season following an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.
Statistically, he finished the year with 53 catches for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
