Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Intense Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a new game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes a few key adjustments:

  • Every squad has only 8 human participants, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions performed by human gamers grant complete experience points, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, since it gives more options for gamers seeking alternative methods to enjoy the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are upset.

Community Reactions: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," says another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and another lists all the issues they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

However, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this title 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Criticisms and Community Input

All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base meeting them halfway, according to forum feedback. Another labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?

If the development team has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and acting on feedback. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
